How long does it take?
An externally mounted solenoid is usually same day. A solenoid pack or in-pan module is same day to next day. A reconditioned valve body typically takes two to three days, and a European mechatronic unit can take longer if it has to be ordered and coded.
Can I replace just one solenoid?
Sometimes, and we will if the others test good. But on many units the solenoids are sold as a pack, and on high-mileage transmissions the others are usually the same age and the same condition. If three of four are marginal, replacing one is a false economy — you pay the labour again in a few months.
Is it worth it on a high-mileage transmission?
If the pan is clean and pressures are good, absolutely — a few hundred dollars to fix shift quality on an otherwise healthy unit is money well spent. If there is debris in the pan, that money is better put toward a rebuild, and we will say so rather than take the easier job.
